Fall 2006

DreamHome Returns

The Merchandise Mart and this year’s presenting sponsor, Traditional Home, are proud and excited to unveil the 2006 DreamHome, returning for its second year on September 22, showcasing the wealth of design talent found in Chicago.

In addition to the long-term goal of educating the public about high-end design and the benefits of working with an interior designer, DreamHome can be an immediate benefit to the design professionals who shop The Mart. Many designers enjoy bringing their clients in to walk through the home for inspiration and discussion. Similar to flipping through a magazine, they find the visual stimulation to be a beneficial starting point for conversations about customers’ tastes, preferences and style. Whether a Richard Norton antique, a stunning table from Dessin Fournir or wallcovering from Hinson & Co., DreamHome combines products from a wide range of showrooms in unique, luxurious ways.

This year DreamHome will be helping make dreams come true by partnering with the University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation Women’s Board, who will host a special preview gala on Thursday, September 21. Tickets are $125 each or $200 for two, and can be reserved online at www.cancerboard.org or by calling 773.702.6566.

DreamHome has a new permanent location directly off the North Drive and will be open through Friday, December 22. Hours are Monday–Friday 9 a.m.–5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Call 312.527.7866 for more information or to schedule a group event.

Special thanks to the following companies who have helped make DreamHome possible: Ashland Plumbing, Baumeister Electronic Architects, Bear Construction Company, Chicago Social, Commercial Light Company, ICI Paints, Newgrom, No Limits Paint, Pioneer Press, Rex Electric, Inc. & Technologies, R. W. Johnson, Thorne Associates, Traditional Home, Trainor Glass Company, Triangle Decorating and W. E. O’Neil Construction Co.

Don’t miss The Merchandise Mart Design Center’s new two-day fall market—DesignChicago, Tuesday, October 10, and Wednesday, October 11. Highlights will include presentations by Larry Laslo and shelter magazine, a unique panel discussion by the DreamHome design team, a fascinating seminar by Frank About Women, a toast to the up-and-coming design stars of tomorrow and a fashionable fabric bag raffle to benefit Harrington School of Design as well as tremendous showroom events both days.
