Solomon
Cordwell Buenz and Associates
A native Chicagoan, Louis Solomon studied architecture at the
University of Illinois. He subsequently started his own firm,
which specialized in office planning. Solomon went into partnership
with J.D. Cordwell, who had been educated in London at the Architectural
Association and the School for Research and Regional Planning.
From 1952 to 1956, Cordwell served as director of planning for
the Chicago Plan Commission. In 1963, John Buenz joined the partnership
that was Solomon and Cordwell.
Solomon Cordwell Buenz and Associates designed the Crate &
Barrel Store at 646 North Michigan Avenue in 1989. Solomon, Cordwell
& Buenz also renovated the Laflin Memorial Building and designed
The Shaw Company Corporate Headquarters and the Wallace Computer
Services Corporate Headquarters in Chicago.
