High Point Attendees Can Hear Successful Designers Discuss Trends and Solutions
HIGH POINT, N.C. (Oct. 18, 2005) – Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI) announces the Designer Series Seminars for High Point International Home Furnishings Market®, October 20-26, 2005. These industry-specific discussions aimed at educating and inspiring designers will cover interesting topics like creating an outdoor room, bridging different eras to create a glamorous room and using furniture to define the mood of a space.
All Designer Seminars will take place in the String and Splinter Club at Market Square, 305 W. High St.

Jamie Drake explores the essential elements that bridge his broad range of styles. From Gracie Mansion’s Federalist period, to the glitz of Hollywood, Drake intimates the commonalities as he sees them; luster, texture, color, the curve and the mix, which epitomize his sophisticated look. The New York-based designer is the man behind some the country’s most dynamic and distinctive interiors and his portfolio includes many projects for Mayor Bloomberg, like restoring Gracie Mansion. Upon graduation from Parsons School of Design, Drake launched his own firm, Drake Design Associates, and has been published in Architectural Digest, French Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, House Beautiful, The New York Times, House & Garden and Interior Design.
“Furniture as Sculptures Within an Interior Space”

Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz
This lecture will explore Noriega-Ortiz’s design philosophy of interiors as art and perceiving furniture as sculptures within an interior space. The presentation will consist of a brief introduction to interior design solutions guided by color, fashion and personal background, focusing on the use of furniture to define moods and space that elicit a calming, emotional response. Noriega-Ortiz is recognized as one of the most stylish and influential designers today. Possessing two master’s degrees in architecture from Columbia University and the University of Puerto Rico, Ortiz began his career at John F. Saladino, Inc. where he spent six of his nine years as a head designer. He launched his own firm in 1992, Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz, LLC. His work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Metropolitan Home, Departures, Town & Country, French Architectural Digest, New York Times Home and House Beautiful and Elle Décor.
